UKIMO training
I may possibly be talking at the UK IMO team training camp at Trinity over Easter. I will be doing one of the following topics in an elementary manner. People who want me to practice on them are welcome to ask. Only comfort with secondary-level mathematics is necessary, though some experience with competitive mathematics will be of use.

1) The real Riemann zeta function as a distribution and its properties.
2) Probabilistic combinatorics, looking at applications to graphs and hypergraphs.

Well, what do you have in mind? Mind I've only had up to Precalculus and the very sliightest bit of Calculus officially, if miscellaneous you-inspired other (fun!) stuff.

Good grief, now I regret logging into livejournal again. WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS SO SMART

Although I think I have figured out why I never understood or connected to maths properly. It was the whole way they taught us that circles thing. It only occurred to me the other day that pi - arr - squared thing is, really, pi - dee and I learned that the whole pi - arr bit is related to the need to understand something more about maths than the mere ability to work out an answer. Of course at the age of thirteen it was unnecessary to truly 'understand' maths and the mechanics so much as it was to have the simplest method of working something out. But they picked the worst of both worlds - they neither let us get on with pi-dee nor explained why it was important to use pi-arr. Pi-arr-ATE. Some combination of pirate and irate - which coincidentally sums up my current state of mind.

That was all mostly non-sensical but the gist of it is MY SCHOOL DAYS WERE WORTHLESS AAAAUGH.

Anyway perhaps I should start livejournalling again, for my sanity.

Also I am working on working on sending you some silly news stories. I just, you know, have to work all the hours god sends and sleep in between in order to maybe escape from this wretched town before I'm too old to care any longer!
